Lots of progress made this week. Almost all of the work we contracted out got started. Electrical outlets were moved, lighting roughed in, switches added, and gas line moved. Yes, it’s all the boring stuff that goes on behind the walls. Everyone showed up as planned which is such a gift these days, especially since I hired out the work in January and then had to reschedule everyone for late April because of our cabinet delays.
The drywall was repaired just in time for cabinet installation to start on Monday. Since the original builder tiled around the kitchen cabinets instead of all the way underneath (eyeroll) we had to fill in with badly matched tile under the where the freestanding range will be. None of it will actually show, but we want to be able to clean under there instead of having it become a dust pit.
Cabinet installation is in full swing. Here’s a peek:
I’m loving the mushroom-colored cabinets. When considering cabinet paint colors, I felt pretty constrained by the color of the existing floors. I don’t like the floors (at all) but we had to keep them for a number of reasons, mostly budget and the fact that they run throughout our whole first floor. Replacing the floors before we moved in is something we should have done, but it’s too late now. Hindsight is always 20/20!
Next up:
Countertops will be templated and reinstalled. Since our cabinet configuration includes wall cabinets that come down to the counters, some of the cabinets can’t be installed until the countertops are back in place. It draws out the process but it’s worth it.
